This sturdy melton fabric is inspired by the flat, dense texture of traditional pennant cloth. It is heavily fulled until the weave becomes invisible, then cleanly sheared for a firm, compact hand. While it retains the moisture-retaining and insulating qualities of wool, it uses TOP-dyed recycled wool-fibers dyed in the unspun stage-giving the material a deep, melange-like color while incorporating a sustainable approach. This award jacket combines melton with leather sleeves. The shoulders are compactly redesigned with an added back yoke for improved mobility, while the roomy arms, three-dimensional sleeve construction, and wider body allow layering over heavier garments. The refined single rib overlaps to the front edge for excellent warmth, and the patch-pocket openings are reinforced with leather to reduce wear and extend longevity. The jacket uses shrink-processed cowhide, which develops natural grain through controlled contraction during tanning. This results in a soft, supple feel, high durability, and a surface that resists visible scratches. The leather also withstands light rain or snow without staining, making the piece both practical and long-lasting.
